News, without which most of our days neither start nor end. In the era of globalization news websites play a decisive role in spreading the happenings in the world. Gone are the days where our grand fathers or fathers reading the news papers sipping a cup of coffee. That generation used to read the news happened the previous day. In the present generation news is updated on the website immediately. Some websites even provide live telecast of happenings throughout the world.
Are these websites primarily intended to spread the happenings allow every user to read the content? Are these websites keeping the intentions of readers with disabilities in mind?
To answer these questions and to understand if the online news websites are accessible or not, I have ran an accessibility test on the home pages of top 10 news websites in India. I have not used complicated or expensive software applications to identify the accessibility problems. I just ran the powerful, reliable, free and open source accessibility tool aXe. Below are the results of my finding.
The test was run on 31th July, 2016. The findings might have changed at a later date.
