In the last one decade the major revolution in technology is mobile. Mobile phones have become integral part of people lives. Due to this mobile revolution, the competition between network providers has increased and new providers have entered the market. However many facilities offered by these telecom providers are not reaching persons with disabilities. For instance, the coupon available for recharging the pre-paid mobile cannot be used by people with visual challenges. The monthly bills of most of these network providers are generated as PDf files. Most of these PDFs are inaccessible for those who use screen readers.
I have taken the list of top 10 network provider websites and have ran automation accessibility audit using aXe,. All the 10 website home pages have accessibility problems listed in the table below. Common accessibility problems observed are poor color contrast
and alternate text for images on most of the websites. Interestingly many of the websites have accessibility problems related to HTML markup
and HTML language of page
.
The home pages are evaluated on 30th May 2016.
